It took ex head of communications for US Google, Jessica Powell several years to finally quit her job. This, despite the fact her intuition had been screaming at her almost every day to take action. Sound familiar?

Knowing that the start of a new year can feel like the best time to kick your ‘regular’ job to the kerb and start a new one – what would your advice be to anyone considering making the move in 2020?

My #1 would be protect your position. I’ve know quite a few people who have just turned up one day, had an argument with their boss and thrown their toys out of the cot, and regretted it after a binge at the bar and a headache the next day.

Kudos to you if you don’t have to find another income, but if you do, line something else up in advance so you can do it on your terms…not someone elses.
