August 14, 2012 at 3:00 am #1093838Up::0Scroll through a teenager’s FB posts – it will drive you batty!
Parents blame the school, the school blames the parents.
Personally, I think we’re all responsible for passing on correct spelling and grammar practises to the next generation.
How many times have I explained to my son that “just because it’s spelled that way on the package, that doesn’t mean it’s right” – donut, anyone?

August 14, 2012 at 10:29 am #1093839Up::0Try my kids then, Leisa. My youngest tells me off if I have the smallest typo in an SMS. Both of them are excellent at spelling, grammar and proofreading, the eldest has been complimented on spotting errors at work on many an occasion.

August 20, 2012 at 2:50 am #1093843Up::0I blame tools such as spelling and grammar checkers and auto-correct. There doesn’t seem to be that much of an emphasis on being able to spell these days. I remember when I was in school we had a spelling journal and we had to practice a certain amount of words each day.
