    Hi everyone!

I have started an online Jewellery boutique, and I would like to promote and form a relationship with a few businesses.

I have chosen carefully, of course, and have been a past customer of all the businesses I’ve picked. I only want to deal with high quality brands and businesses. I’m just writing out my Capability Statements and relevant info, but I’m unsure exactly what I want from them?

For example, my company sells jewellery, and I have found another business that sells storage solutions online including jewellery storage. I want to offer them a small ad on my front page, that links to a page of why my business loves the storage business with external links to their website.

What should I ask for? An amount per click? They don’t have advertising on their site. Do I need to sign up to some kind of affiliate program?

Some of the businesses already have affiliate programs, like Commission Monster, so that’s easy enough, so I guess I wanting advice how to approach this particular business. Do I write my capability statement and then ask them do they have an Affiliate program in place? I’m just not sure what I want exactly…

Your thoughts are much appreciated, TIA.

Um.. I’m confused about your definition of affiliate marketing :s

It sounds like you simply want to advertise their product on your website, in return for a commission?

In that case you should ask if they have an affiliate program you can join where all of that stuff is setup so you can put it on your website easily.

If they don’t have an affiliate program, it’s going to be harder to get them to allow you to promote their services.

I’m a bit confused as well. Are you to trying to exchange links with other retailers OR trying to exchange advertisements on each others websites?

Sorry guys…. Thanks for your patience.

I want to have links on my website, of businesses that I personally feel are of high quality and are related to my business. These brands are established, so I hope that adds credibility to my new online store. One of the businesses I want to approach, does not have advertising on their site at all, so I guess I am asking, what do I say I want in return?

Would it be a sales/commission based type of thing? I ask them if they have an affiliate program, like the other places I want to approach?

    Hi Alice,

If it’s a simple link exchange – usually what happens is that you place link to their store on your site and vise versa. It doesn’t have any sales/commission sale approach – simple benefit for 2 stores to get ranked higher in search engines.
As far as I know online stores are quite reluctant to posts any ads for other stores unless they connected in some way (same owner, etc).

It might be a good idea to try our website as well – you can simply register and upload your latest offer – that way you will receive direct links from a reputable source to your store straight away.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Alice,

A lot of retailers that have affiliate programs normally work with an Affiliate Network as a platform for their programs. If you are looking for retailers with with affiliate programs to join then I would recommend you visit the Australian networks:

    • clixGalore
    • Commission Factory
    • DGM
    • Commission Monster
    • Check My Stats

Some networks will want to see your website before approving you to join their network and promote online retailers programs, others won’t. Most of the networks in Australia offer different programs however in saying that many programs can also be found on multiple networks, sometimes however a better commission rate can be found on one over the other.

Hope this helps in finding somewhere to start.
