thanks for the warm welcome to the forums. It seems like my new website is appreciated even though it is unconventional. Any more opinions would be welcome.

I don’t know about others but i get bored of seeing sites built with template designs.

I had some ideas for Mike on the Marketing of his Hammock sites so will note them here in case anyone else has some ideas to add or correct. Maybe you could consider getting the site reviewed by an SEO to improve the onsite optimization and also the content. That would be my suggestion for your seo as i see a lot of room for improvement there.

Then there are other marketing angles to consider.
    – PPC ads
    – conversion optimization to squeeze more purchases out of the traffic you already have
    – email marketing

    hope that helps
    cheers

    Welcome Scott.

Just a brief comment about your tag line.

I don’t get the “Websites for Marketing” and “Lazy Internet Marketing”

I’m not sure what you are trying to say or who you are targeting with this?

If I had to guess what you meant by Lazy Internet Marketing it would be creating passive income niche sites. Simple wordpress blog, a few articles, ad sense and affiliate links.

This doesn’t seem to match with the “Websites for Marketing” which to me means that its a website to promote a business. Aren’t almost all websites design to help market a business or service? It just seems strange wording to me.

Hope this doesn’t sound harsh but wanted to give you feedback as it really stood out to me.

    Dave.

    Hi Scott

Yep, you’re right, your site is very different. At first glance, it reminds me of surfing somehow. Probably the blue and white.

You did ask for opinions so I hope you won’t mind that mine aren’t all positive. I’m mostly looking through a copywriter’s eyes but also have some other points to mention.

    • Great to have contact details so prevalent throughout the site.
    • Lots of invitations for contact.
    • There are some inconsistencies throughout, e.g. in some places you use ‘website’, in others ‘web site’.
    • Found some typos and punctuation errors but overall, pretty good.
    • Use of American spelling in places (‘specialize’, ‘optimization’).
    • A bit cringe-y to use ’empower/empowering’ four times in such a relatively small body of text on your home page. It seems as though you just discovered the word and love it a bit too much lol. If it’s so important, then why isn’t it mentioned anywhere else on your site, except the blog?
    • Too much use of capital letters where they shouldn’t be.
    • Your stock photos are very familiar (the coloured pencils, the hand with the pen). Your very business name is Creative so you should try to use less common stock photos, if any, or maybe even use some kind of abstract imagery. An image of a pen doesn’t really illustrate web design, nor do pencils illustrate graphic design in these digital days. You’d be far better off placing a photo of yourself and/or your team there, and maybe a photo of your studio/office.
    • Testimonials – You’ve hyperlinked people’s names, obviously for authenticity’s sake but you allow the links to open up in the same window, thereby sending your site visitors away from your site and having to find their way back, when they may get distracted at the new link.
    • Showcase – No reason why you shouldn’t hyperlink the web addresses so visitors can click on them to see what kind of work you do. But here too, have them open in a new window.
    • I signed up for the “10 minute SEO checklist” and the automated responses were really professional and smart. But, I didn’t receive the checklist.
    • There are no prices on your packages page. Even if you could put a ballpark figure, e.g. “From $500”, at least potential clients would know if your pricing is, well, in their ballpark. Otherwise, they might just assume you’re too expensive and click out of there. And I’m not sure why it says “no GST”. Is it because you’re not GST-registered? No point really mentioning it if you’re not mentioning prices for visitors to add or exclude GST to.

Anyway, I sincerely hope I haven’t discouraged you, but rather given you some food for thought. I’d love to be of further assistance if you’d care to drop me a line. All the best!

Hi Scott! Welcome to the forums!

Overall, I like your website – Very unique, individual and as you said “not template” It may be a little clutter though – There doesn’t seem to be any logical direction for my eyes to follow.

But you know, if you ask for 5 different opinions on your design, you will get 5 completely different responses.

Anyway, good to have you here! It’s great to have another web designers.

    Sup Scott!

Just wanted to say hi to a fellow web designer who also just joined up as a soloist.

I wish i could show you my site as well but being as i just quit not too long ago, i’ve still got to put the thing together.

I dunno about you but i feel like a tradie in that sense? Like how they have all these great jobs they’ve finished for everyone else but then when it comes to their own home it’s just a big pile of ‘to-do’s

Anyhow i look forward to talking with you as besides the team i just left, i don’t really know any other web designers.

    Cheers mate

    Hello!

    Welcome to the forums Scott

    Some good tips Gina.

I agree with having the word lazy in the name, I was a little confused.

    Good luck with the business!

Thanks for the messages Matthew and others.

Some invaluable advice and suggestions. I definitely feel like a tradie in that my own site tends to be always in construction.

Since the first post i have revised my site with suggestions.
    – added content to my site SEO Ranking Results
    – added some new content to my blog.
    – placed a page $99 marketing special

I’m still working on the branding which will be evolving for some time. The Lazy concept is an experiment which has given me some good feedback on that.

I still feel like the overall site design needs revision so i will put that on the list also.

    Thanks again for the feedback.
    Cheers

Really small bit of advice (and take it how you like) – I’d change your username.

You’d be surprised (or maybe you won’t be), how easy it is for potential clients to google your business name, and then stumble upon forum posts.

If I saw “ImLazy” as the name of the business owner, I’d run a mile.

Very True! I get calls asking to speak to “Emroy” – Saying they saw me on the FS forums … Hence me starting to put “Jake” at the end of my posts :P
