Nine ways to boost your credibility

- June 21, 2011 2 MIN READ

As a soloist, I only get paid for the work I produce and my credibility is everything. I can’t afford a bad attitude for even a single day. Can you? Here are some ways to boost your credibility.

Everyone has an off day now and then, but you can’t let the bad days get the best of you. As a professional, you’re on show 24/7. Your credibility is determined by how well you handle the bad days and as for the good days, anyone can look good on one of those!

I believe attitude plays a huge part in whether you’re successful, so try these strategies for keeping your spirits high and ensuring your credibility is maintained.

Choose your company wisely

In my opinion, your attitude is largely determined by who you’re influenced by, and who you associate with. We all have days where maintaining a positive frame of mind feels like the most difficult thing in the world. On those days, even more than usual, the people around us have a major influence on our mindsets and how we feel about ourselves.

Grin and bear it

Smile, smile and then smile some more. You may feel like your heart is ready to explode, like you have a knife stuck in your windpipe, or like you just don’t want to get out of bed, but smiling will at least start to make you feel better. It’s a step in the right direction.

Sing your heart out

Listen to the most motivational song you can get hold of – and sing along while you’re at it. Not just once, but ten times if you need to. Keep going until you have a spring in your step and feel like you’re on top of the world.

Write from your heart too

Write a book, write articles that can be published (even if it is just on your own Facebook page) or write your email newsletter. The more you write, the better you get at it. And the more you write from the heart, the more people want to read what you have to tell them.

Get exposure

Find a way to get more exposure as a professional. Getting exposure makes you feel good about yourself and encourages you to do better every time.

Believe in your capabilities

You know you’re worthy. You know you have a knowledge base you can share with others. Believe you can, and you will. Simple. (And if you’re having such an off day that you’re starting to doubt yourself, it might be time to give yourself a good healthy dose of self-appreciation).

Let off steam

Find ways to vent, such as chatting with a friend or even writing a blog. It will make you feel better, and during the process you may even come up with new insights.

Blow your own trumpet

Tell everyone you meet what you do. They may not need your services, but they may know someone who does. And while you’re chattering away, you may just start to get back in touch with the passion that drives you forwards.

Most of all, remember that you and you alone can determine your attitude and how the world sees you.
