Hi
You didn’t mention the system you are using for your website, eg WordPress, Opencart, etc and the size of the site eg. if its a large site or eCommerce store. This would help with our answers but in general there are tasks that can be monitored and setup to run automatically, with daily or weekly alerts when a task is required. Backups from your software can also be automated are are important. One thing I have found over the years is that clients don’t do regular backups, and keep software up to date and this usually becomes a big problem if their site has been hacked or they want to move hosting providers.
As one of the previous answers indicated updating outdated software is important for security reasons including the risk of your website being hacked. And software updates can included patches were software bugs have been fixed.
We offer some of our clients a monthly retainer for either general website maintenance, updates and upload plugins, new content, etc, or for SEO with can included the previous but also a SEO marketing. In some cases with we can also general website maintenance we can included tutorials/training.

If you don’t want to go down the shopify path and keep your shopping cart on your hosting server with your current website there are several options, all which I have done for our clients.if you have wordpress then add a shopping plugin eg woocommerce
add a complete shopping cart cms and link between sites with a shop button on the menuIn the past when I have done option two we create a design template to match as closely as possible to the rest of your website and in some case make the menus on both so the customer doesn’t notice that they are moving between the two systems. I personally prefer own clients to use opencart as its free and we build additional modules for it, its lite as in code so unlike wordpress its alot faster plust more secure than wordpress. Shopify isnt Australian and you would be using their servers so would need to link the sites is a bit more complex. Plus you have to pay ongoing fees for shopify where as you have an upfront cost but not monthly fees for a wordpress or opencart site.
If you are interested I can show you a few sites as mentioned above and a quote if you are interested – no hard sell and my partner and I have run our business for over 25 years so we have a great deal of experience in this area.

Will you sell online or find stockists?

My accountant is great and really helpful, I would recommend him highly as it charges a flat fee for the year and loves being poractive with clietns, infact he has passed on a number of his clients to me and he works with a couple of his clients in their business. He will probably have a staffer or someone he knows to help you out.
I would avoid overseas help with financials, there is no recourse and I have heard horrible stories of clients being left in the lurch and not getting what they paid for, particular in my profession.

Isn’t this part of the latest move part of Googles new update to its search algorithm named Hummingbird where it uses internet conversational sentences as queries rather than keywords and phrases??Examples could include:
– List of good Italian restaurants in Brisbane
– Somebody to fix a leaking tap
– Find me cheap flights to Bali
– List the best seo companies in brisbaneThese changes also took into consideration concepts and relationships between the questions being asked, and the answers being sought. This means intelligent answers (as content) to longer, complicated search queries are now very important in your SEO strategy.
which means – YES – back to good old copywriting, creative directors and good old fashion content!!! yeah team

I think your first 2 options are the best
1. Send personal, hand-written letters and a flyer?
2. Send typed, but still personalised letters in the mailOption 1 would not only introduce yourself directly to the person you wish to do business with in an obvious personal way,and the flyer would show you are a serious concern and give the prospective client something to file and keep on record. Emails can be easily lost, missed or deleted.

aslan designOctober 19, 2012 at 12:34 am #1120266Up::0I agree, as a designer with near 30 years experience I see alot of ‘no design’ or poor design’ passed off as professional design.
People under value design, music, most creative practices. Throwing a few things on a page doesn’t make it design. Having no technical skills to produce artwork for print or online makes it worse. The computer doesn’t design, nor does it make it technically accurate, nor does it think. The computer is simple a tool!
Design is not just a pretty thing. Design is about user experience and communicate to an audience for print and online. Design is a thoughtful, consider, researched process.
A designer should have industry qualifications eg a design degree, studio or ad agency experience, user interface experience and marketing experience, etc.
A designer is there to create marketing and advertise material to make your business grow across all channels and media. A programmer or SEO ‘expert’ is not going to do this. You only have to look at the rehashed logos on 99designs and the like to see that design is devalued. Go to ‘behance.com’ and see designers who are professional, committed to their craft and want to make work that is valued
I sorry to sound so peeved !

we put our link at the bottom. we would remove this if client asks. One reason we do this is for credit as we have had others take credit for our work.
with print and publishing, the photographer 99% of the time gets a credit but the design studio/design never does
a book – everyone gets a credit
a tv show or film – everyone gets a credit
articles – writer oftens gets a creditApril 20, 2012 at 9:22 am #1100444Up::0hi

In general I think you need to consider both online and print. Best of all is word of mouth, 90% of our clients (I own a graphic design studio and web hosting company) come through recommendations which is really nice for us and also puts us in a good relationship with our clients right away.
A lot of people consider online cheaper but it isn’t always, and print can be more effect in the long term. I guess online can be seen as a way of cutting out professional creatives eg. copyrighters and designers but a lot of DYI marketing isn’t effective.
One of our clients has switch his $80k print budget to online for all advertising & marketing including a online store. It works for his particular business. In another case, we have a client that we do a mix of everything – print brochures/direct mail, press advertising, email marketing, online banners ads, online brochures and website. Different media covers all demographics and because we are in charge of the all aspects of the production, it creates comprehensive and solid branding and advertising campaigns,
Also, the idea that online is greener than print is also a little skewed (and yes, I am a greenie). The paper vs. pixels debate puts paper around the same carbon footprint as online in most cases where you are using sustainable paper and printers with good eco credentials. Most host companies and their datacentres don’t use green energy or sustainable practices. Neither do computer manufactures or some client for that matter!
December 2, 2011 at 8:22 am #1077920Up::0hi,
I can help you with the design & artwork of your pdf newsletter and your other marketing and advertising material. It could be more effective to create a html email rather than have an attachment. I can help with this as I have email broadcast services for clients.
I own a small design studio and produce a wide range of quality design for print and web marketing, we do everything in-house and we value happy, long term relationships with our clients. My business also offers website hosting etc. Our clients range from small businesses like yours to corporates.
We charge very reasonable rates and have an extensive network of suppliers in print, signage, etc. Please visit our website http://www.aslandesign.com.au.
I would love to discuss this with you further, if you would like to call me on 02 9558 2244

I think the way a popup stores works best is to have a really tight theme surrounding the branding, e.g. if it’s a single product of your brand for instance and creating a story around it, perhaps something with a bit fun and inviting at the entrance or window. That way it doesn’t look like a market stand or a $2 shop!
I also think that people need to know it’s a popup site, if you disappear after a week or so they may think you were unsuccessful and went broke, not realising that they can still buy your product somewhere else.
Popup stores in shopping centres are a little different as you have the advantage of being more visible as often the stand is viewed from all sides. I find these easier to design the marketing & display for these, but it is still really important that the display will draw attention and curiosity rather than just having a straight sales strategy.
Hope that helps
