    Hi James Millar

I have some thoughts and ideas but what I was really suggesting is this.

If the Flying Solo Team workshopped and analysed Bert’s comments and the Thread overall, they could potentially come up with an even better model for the Flying Solo Forum.

In keeping with the Spirit of Bert’s OP I think subsequent posts are rearranging the chairs on the Titanic. I know everyone loves the history of Flying Solo but it’s a new time now.

The Flying Solo Forum could be an incredible business foundation for new entrepreneurs but it needs to change… and the changes are relatively easy to implement.

I hear you Bert and if you look in the archives I’ve previously made comments not too distant from yours.

The Flying Solo Forum model is getting long in the tooth now and to address what you have written about will require Flying Solo to evolve into something of more dynamic and respected value in the Forum.

PS. I edited this comment to only refer to the Forum.

    Hi Bert

I completely agree with you but the quickest way to offend someone is by giving them advice they don’t really want to hear.

Perhaps that’s why a lot of people who could give sound advice here burn out when they see the repetition you mention.

You missed… “may I have reviews of my new website that I built”

“… there are still big challenges and barriers specific to women in small business, startups and corporate.”

    What are they?

    What does this mean?

“I was using my webpage to send emails and was scheduling them but the opening rate was so low.”

I know I’m late to the party, but if anyone else is looking, Venom Computers are well worth checking out. Really high spec’d machines without all the song and dance. http://www.venomcomputers.com.au/

    Hello Steve
These look to be very good machines and I have sent you a personal message for more info.

It might be good to post some more info on your experience with them here

    Hi

B2C and B2B are the same but different… dur

The biggest mistake you’ll make is sending both to the same website

http://manhattancouture.com.au/ … Is this the website you’re proposing?

I’ve had 5 Dell laptops so far… and been trying to go back for a sixth for some months now.

I must have a 17″ screen even though I cart it around… it’s my main computer.

8GB of RAM doesn’t cut it now so it’s 12 which means 16

I’ve spoken to Dell online several times about getting a top of the line CPU in an Inspiron (no problem) but when I mention the RAM the online sales people disappear for long periods and come back and say No.

Finally spoke to someone online in Dell sales who said no problem… buy the machine and then buy the RAM and our service people will fit it.

Dell are their own worst enemy in many ways.

But the 5 I’ve had so far have been excellent value and total work horses.

Hellooo Dell… are you listening on the Internet forums?

    Hello

This is why you would NOT go to a Patent Lawyer and part with a Pile of Money right now… “This will give me 12 months to do proper market research to determine commercial viability”

If you want some Token Protection Comfort then lodge one yourself for I think $120 and write as much description as you want.

For no money you can look ASAP at the Google Adwords Planning Tool and see how many people are looking for your Invention as a Solution to a Problem they know they have

    Hi Warren,
Thanks for your feedback. I don’t understand you comment into breaking ‘it’ into ’emotion’, rather than ‘age’ categories. Can you please explain? You mean that I should not have Classes for kids 7-14 & Adults 14+?

I’m constantly working on the message, making sure it’s very clear. As they say – simple things are the most difficult ones to achieve. There is loads more content all over the website, have you had time too look? Or you just scanned the homepage? Thanks again, Michaela

I’m saying People Buy Based On Emotion and you don’t have enough Emotion in your Web Copy and I struggled to understand what your website was about before I watched your Video… just my thoughts :-)

    Hello again..
When I read your OP post again I think this is way too broad and you will do better by breaking it into Market Segments and chasing one segment at a time so you have a clear message for that segment…

My business is about exploring new territory by disrupting the traditional swimming school model and running fun and exciting Mermaid classes for Kids (7-14) and Fitness Classes for Adults. Essentially I combine elements of yoga/stretching + learning new water skills with Mermaiding. We learn how to use a big beautiful mermaid fin in the water while building core strength, flexibility and water confidence for life.

    Hi Michaela

I think you are too close to what you offer… and your website benefit is not clear.

I had to watch your video to understand what you are offering… and whilst I am very familiar with Free Diving I had not remembered Mermaiding.

Your message is not for everyone in my humble opinion but it is for potentially many… and so I think breaking it into ‘age’ categories as opposed to ’emotion’ is too harsh an approach.

For the short time I spent trying to get a feel for what you offer I think you would do better with more emotion… “How to Swim like a Dolphin blah blah”

I’d test removing “Discover Mermaiding” and replace with “You Can Swim Like A Dolphin”

You know your stuff but you’re not communicating it Simplistically and with Strong Benefits I feel.

I also looked at the “keywords” your Home page has and I think they could be improved.. but I’ll leave that for the SEO people here to comment further.

    I looked so some thoughts…

    – make your logo smaller
    – between the words “Providing” and “Handyman” … put Guaranteed
    – ditch the techno Phone Call stuff… it will just scare people
    – ditch all the social media buttons in that spot and replace with quick links to View My Work and also Testimonials
    – stop trying to learn how to be a web design person

How much more money could you have made already just playing to your Strengths… that is, what you are already good at? … politelly said :-)

I don’t have a link to my website or anything in my signature so I Hope my thoughts can be taken as Objective and Constructive for a long life FS Forum.

Flying Solo has various forms of income but I speculate that Advertising revenue ranks pretty high.

For any of the corporate advertisers the “Forum Member Numbers” and “Forum Activity” would I speculate be seen as the measure of the Strength of Flying Solo.

Indeed… the Forum seems to still be the Heart of Flying Solo and it has worked well because there’s always been a steady stream of experienced people who’ve provided great advice . I think there was even a Novelty value when the FS Forum first launched.

So far it’s worked well… but Nothing lasts without evolution.

If the quality of advice drops off… will the Forum Traffic continue becomes the question?

If the Forum Traffic drops will the Corporate Advertisers stick is the next question?

James Millar has made some very valuable comments on all of this in this thread.

It might be time to at least revisit the Descriptions, FS Team… so ‘Quality Post’ people like James Millar and the others are better referred to than as just “Well-Known Members”.

What does a “Well-Known Member” mean to a new visitor looking for help?
