Dessy Angelova is an SEO specialist who loves nothing better than helping her clients succeed. If you’d love to see your business feature more prominently in search or simply want advice on how to manage your SEO, Dessy has you covered.
We ask Dessy the hard questions about life as a soloist
You’ve got a free half-hour during your workday. What do you do?
I either go out for a walk to get some fresh air and clear my head or meditate. If I am overwhelmed, I sometimes get in the car and just drive in no particular direction.
When did you know you wanted to start your own business?
I always have been fascinated by people who have built a successful business from scratch. People say ‘to succeed you must fail first’. I have failed several times but I have learnt valuable lessons. It takes a lot of commitment and strength to build a business. I value these qualities in people. The moment I knew I wanted to start an SEO business, in particular, was when I met my mentor. Everyone needs a little bit of inspiration and help sometimes.
What’s your proudest moment?
I have many moments I felt proud of myself. In business is when I deliver value for my clients and be able to prove ROI for their business. My client’s success is my success.
What’s your number one way to wind down?
I love bushwalking especially if it ends with a beautiful view. I live on Central Coast and there are some amazing coastal walks. One of my favourites is Patonga to Pearl beach track. If you are ever on the Coast, it’s a must-do and see.
What’s the best thing about being a soloist? And the worst thing?
The best thing about being a soloist is that it gives flexibility and freedom, especially in digital marketing. You only need a laptop and a computer connection. You can work from anywhere in the world.
The worst thing is loneliness and isolation.
What’s the best piece of business advice you’ve ever been given?
Change your mindset and think big. Audit your inner circle and remove negativity. Spend more time around people who are where you want to be. It’s the way to feed your mind and it changes the way you think.
Where and when do you have your best ideas?
In bed, just before I go to sleep and it’s dark and quiet.
What would be your advice to aspiring soloists?
Don’t quit but expect to win. Be committed. There will be ups and downs, but don’t give up before the finish line – you may be just a few feet away from winning.
What would your mum say is your greatest strength? And weakness?
I have to ask her! I think she would say I am persistent and driven, but sometimes emotions get in the way. While little emotions can have a positive impact on business, big emotions negatively affect my decisions. I often count to 10 before I express an opinion or make a decision.
What do you wear to work?
It really depends on how I feel that particular day. I could wear heels and business attire one day, and the next day pyjama pants and ugg boots.
What do you do? Who for? And how does it benefit them?
I do SEO or search engine optimisation. I specialise in Legal SEO and SEO for Mortgage Brokers. I care about my client and want them to succeed. I only work with fewer clients, as I am dedicated to providing quality. I try to establish long term relationships. SEO can be quite a bit of investment, but if done properly it could fetch any business a high return on investment (ROI). My processes are proven to get an ROI for businesses and that’s where I put focus on.
