Four free Facebook tabs to make your Facebook page POP

- April 5, 2012 2 MIN READ

With thousands of apps (tabs) for Facebook pages on offer, it is hard to know where to start and what Facebook tabs to use for your page. With the new Facebook Timeline you can only display a maximum of 12 apps at a time, so you need to make them count!

I’ve put a list of four of my favourite Facebook tabs below and how you could use them depending on what you are trying to do with your page.

Static HTML tab

I love using static HTML Facebook tabs because they can turn your Facebook page into a mini website. While it does require some coding, you don’t need to be a coder to figure it out. You could use this tab for:

  • A newsletter sign up tab
  • Promotional tab, e.g. a special offer, a sale, a competition (Facebook has a host of terms and conditions around competitions, the big one to be aware of is that you must use an application to run a competition)
  • ‘Photos of the team’ tab
  • Basically anything, I’ve used it as a resources tab previously where I have put a list of articles which were all hyperlinked – go mad!

When you are using this just remember that any images you need to add to it should optimally be 851 pixels wide.

Forum app

The Forum app gives you the opportunity to start discussions on your page. You might want to discuss topics relevant to your industry, or encourage people to ask questions and get others responding to them. This can be used effectively for a company who organise group tours who want people to chat and get to know each other before they go away, or similarly for events organisers.

Contact form

You may think that a contact us tab is a weird choice, but I actually get quite a few emails via it. The one I use is called, funnily enough, Contact Form. It is useful that people can send an email right from the Facebook page, they don’t have to click on an email address (which doesn’t work if you use a webmail provider) or copy and paste an address, plus you can customise the form with your branding and fields (and it’s FREE!). You want to make it easy for people to contact you, and the info tab is so messy!

I have only covered four Facebook tabs here, there are hundreds more, it just depends what you want to achieve. I will cover more in my next post, but tell me in the comments if you are looking for something specific.
