What exactly is article marketing? Article marketing involves writing articles with two purposes in mind: to provide your reader with useful information about a subject related to their lives, while also promoting your business.
How does my article promote me?The actual body of your article provides useful information, however, it’s the ‘bio’ at the bottom of the article, also known as the author resource box, that advertises your services. Every Flying Solo article has an author resource box at the end. Wander around the Flying Solo site and see how the writers have advertised themselves and/or their products and services.
But if I give people information, they won’t use my servicesNot necessarily. Your article will be around 500 words long, so it’s impossible to give every shred of information on a particular subject. And even if you did, there will always be people who are too busy or not skilled enough to do the job themselves, in which case they might turn to you. Given that more businesses are using article marketing to boost their profile, if you’re not giving your clients useful information, then your competitor probably is.

The journey of an article – free national and international publicityI’d like to share a personal story that shows how effective article marketing can be. The very first article I contributed to Flying Solo interested people enough that a variety of businesses around Australia put it on their own websites, ranging from an accounting firm to personal trainers. Ninemsn also chose to place it on their small business site, and a European coaching institute based in the UK published it in their monthly e-newsletter. As a result, I was getting enquiries from around Australia and around the world – all with just one article, and at zero cost to me. Not every article will create the same amount of interest, but every article is beneficial, and here’s why.
