Putting your subconscious mind to work

- March 5, 2007 < 1 MIN READ

Recently I became aware of the incredible impact of…well, being aware, and the role of the subconscious mind.

I had become ever so vaguely curious about a certain type of software.

That weekend, I was listening to the radio and heard an in-depth report on how it had risen to prominence. Three days later I came across a newspaper article describing specific products which had been built using the software. The day after that, I met a technical bod at a networking function and was, miraculously, able to hold my own in a conversation on the topic.

A topic that I had known nothing about only a week earlier.

Serendipity, coincidence, synchronicity; call it what you will, we’ve all experienced it.

It’s in action when you become aware of repeated exposure to a word or a saying, particularly one you hadn’t known or properly understood. It’s also at work on the days an old song pops into your head, only to be played on the radio five minutes later.

Perhaps you’ve experienced it through a new and sudden increase in knowledge, as was the case with me.

Now whether my discovery has any practical application remains to be seen. What amazes me, though, is the way it stopped being ‘out there’ and instead became a part of my reality.

I could swear I hadn’t consciously chosen to find out more on the subject, yet relevant information seemed to filter itself my way.

If my conscious mind was not at work, maybe my subconscious mind was? Perhaps opening your subconscious mind to something can help lure it your way.

What an incredible thought!
