Up & Away: Mia Freedman
Career woman, mother, wife and curator-creator of opinions on all things women, Mia Freedman talks to Jodie McLeod about her journey of building and growing women's lifestyle website, Mamamia.
Mia Freedman has carved a unique path in the world of business. Starting out in women’s magazines she was editor of Cosmopolitan at age 24, had her first of three children soon after, and – by way of a not-so-successful stint in television spent three years as a soloist writing a blog. This blog went on to become the formidable women’s lifestyle website Mamamia, which Mia now runs with her husband Jason Lavigne.
"I don’t have to ask anyone’s permission, and I don’t have to have that extra knot in the stomach of – what are people going to think and what are people going to say? And that’s massive."
But it doesn’t end there. Mamamia is continually expanding, now with a sister website iVillage, and a presence in radio, print and soon – online retail. Along the way Mia has certainly learnt a thing or two about running a business – and especially about the juggling act of being a mother, wife and career woman. Listen to the interview now.
